04 / Data shouldn't just be reported—it should be used

Key point: Data is most valuable when it drives decisions, not just reporting.

Many organizations have data on their waste management. The problem is that this data often arrives too late, is in various formats, or requires manual processing before it can be used. As a result, the data primarily serves as a basis for reporting—something compiled after the fact to show what has happened. But data can be much more than that.

When information on volumes, costs, transportation, rental fees, fill rates, climate impact, receipts of delivery, and weighbridge tickets is collected on an ongoing basis, something else emerges: actual decision support. Then it becomes possible to identify patterns.

Which transport runs seem unnecessary?
Which locations deviate from the norm?
Which waste fractions are driving up costs?
Where is there potential for better sorting, reuse, or recycling?
Which technological choices could reduce both costs and climate impact?

That’s the difference between monitoring and managing.

Collecct makes materials and waste management measurable, comparable, and improvable. Not just so the customer can report on what has happened, but so the customer can make better decisions moving forward. Data shouldn’t just describe reality—it should help change it.
